Flagpoling to amend my study permit

Hi all, I just moved to Canada recently for graduate studies, where I do teaching and research for the school and get a salary. However, the border officer missed this somehow and didn’t add the work authorization clause on my study permit. So I can’t get a SIN and subsequently cannot work.

I looked this up and saw on the IRCC that I need to mail my permit back to them to have it amended. But this would take 2 months (possibly more) and I really need the job and the pay.

So I wonder what other options do I have? I’m considering flagpoling but I’m not sure about it since I haven’t heard about it until recently. I also don’t want to risk my chances of US’ immigration down the line. Thank you!

Some have had luck going back to the airport if an error was made during landing. There is no real protocol for this so you’ll have to show up and start trying to find someone to talk to. Would suggest going when airport is not that busy.

This will only work if this just happened and OP hasn’t wait days or weeks. Also possible, OP landed in Toronto, and then flew to Winnipeg or somewhere.
