Hi everyone, under the new policy of extension of PGWP by 2 years, can we apply for PNP now and get the notice of interest letter from Alberta if we live in Alberta? There are other requirements also like support letter from province and employment letter etc but I have question that are we eligible now to get that letter and upload it? Please help.!!

There is no policy to extend PGWPs. In fact, the government just ended PGWP extensions. The new policy is to extend work permits for PNP nominees. The new policy is for those Alberta PNP candidates who were in the system prior to the announcement and who have work permits expiring in 2024 or expired in 2024 to get a support letter. You don’t ask for it. Alberta officials send it to you if eligible. So if you are not even an approved provincial candidate or nominee then you are not eligible.

From the site,
The ‘Temporary Public Policy to Facilitate Work Permits for Prospective Provincial Nominee Program Candidates’ signed with the Federal government applies to Alberta Opportunity Stream and Rural Renewal Stream nominee applicants who:

  • were waiting for a final decision on their application as of August 26, 2024, and who held a valid work permit with an expiry date between May 7 and December 31, 2024, at the time of application
  • had their application declined between May 7 and August 26, 2024, on the sole basis that their work permit had expired in 2024
Applicants cannot apply to participate in this initiative. The AAIP will complete an initial assessment to determine which nominee candidates are eligible.

Hi @Naturgrl, so from your response I am assuming that if I haven’t applied for Alberta PNP earlier then right now I can’t apply for it to get the notice of interest letter for PGWP extension.

There is no PGWP extension. The policy is for PNP candidates who have expiring work permits in 2024. If you have not even applied and been selected then you are not eligible.

Yes my work permit is expiring in 2024 and I am in Alberta. Now, can I apply for PnP and get the notice of interest letter? I would like to invite more people to help please.

No you can’t get it. You didn’t read my #2 post. Here it is again…

Unfortunately no. Like said in the previous comments, there is no such policy as you haven't applied for the initiative. The only chance for you is your current employer to give you a LMIA (closed work permit); otherwise you'll be without legal status in Canada.
