I am a Canadian citizen residing outside of Canada with my husband (not a Canadian) and a 1.5 yr old baby (Canadian passport holder). I currently have no significant ties to to Canada apart from holding a bank account which is couple of years old which has couple of hundred $$. I have some friends and cousins residing in Canada only and I intend to sponsor my husband to immigrate to Canada. We intend to move to Canada once the application has been approved. My husband has enough funds and investments to last us for initial 8-12 months that we will move to Canada once we have approval.

I have completed all the other formalities of the application process including forms, proof of relationships etc as well. However, we have difficulty in providing “proof” that we have the intention to move back to Canada. Can I seek any expert’s advice, also if there are any said templates for such a letter that can be shared by anyone?

Thanks a bunch!

I am trying to apply for jobs, however wanted to find out should i wait to submit my application for family sponsorship till i have received a job offer or continue with the application while looking for jobs in Canada?

Since one of the requirements is to share proof of intent on us living in Canada once PR is granted to Principle Applicant.

You can apply now for the sponsorship and start looking and apply for jobs now and ongoing. Your spouse can do so too.

In terms of other things that can be shown: search for housing; arrangements for education, professional qualifications; arrnagements for visits to Canada to look into anything like this; arrangements for health, social stuff, churches, moving companies, animal care, whatever. Anything and everything that demonstrates you have started looking into things. Even internet searches for relevant things, and correpsondence with any relevant (eg realtors / anything at all relevant to settling). Arrangements for spouses, kids, family members, etc.

Note: they for the most part do NOT expect applicants to have complete files of all things like jobs, housing, etc settled. But fairly often they will contact partway through the process and ask for, basically, evidence of the intent to settle. At that point, you can resubmit what you already have, but most important - have some things to update. That will show seriousness of intent.

Sometimes what happens is applicants do nothing between applying and when they get that addl info request, and then they either respond with nothing new or do a half-arsed quick internet search. Those who have continued to make preparations generally don't have any trouble.

Also: if one or all of you will return to Canada on a specific date or early, definitely advise IRCC on arrival. Nothign shows seriousness of intent to return to Canada better than actually returning. Even visiting to make arrangements helps your case.

Your spouse can join if they have a visa or ETA, and apply to work. Getting the work permit may take several months but if not an issue, return before the PR status is ready. You and child will have access to healthcare employment market etc immediately (save some provinces where there is a 3-month waiting period).

This.

We applied with as much evidence as possible, job searches, car searches, moving/shipping quotes, copies of emails to local vets, dentists, doctors and volunteering positions. Letters of support from family and friends.

Then my wife got a job VERY early in the process back in Vancouver, so our timeline for moving got pulled WAY forward. She actually sent a webform with a copy of her job offer. She went out in Feb 2024 for a very quick visit, changed her address with IRCC and exchanged her drivers licence etc, back to UK for 4 weeks and we moved at the end of March, I entered as a visitor.

Keep a folder of evidence that supports your return, and if and when the time comes they ask for more, then you should be fine. there is a chance they will call for interview but I havent seen it recently, well no one has mentioned it anywhere i am following timelines. We were in a position where we are staying with my inlaws until such a time we can afford to buy(Vancouver, ouch) so housing wasnt a factor for us.

I've not heard of a single interview request for such cases; I think they only do these for genuine-relationship issues (or mainly anyway, and leaving aside the rare security interviews).

Citizens living with their spouses abroad for any serious length of time, and esp with children, usually don't need more inquiry or an interview to show their relationships are genuine.
