@SSGarg @gildathomas did you folks ever figure this out? Did you find an avenue for your partners to obtain open work permits while you are waiting for your PR applications to be approved? I'm just about to submit my complete application, so I'll be receiving my AOR soon, and I'll be able to apply for my BOWP, but it's still not clear to me what the path is for my partner.
Hello, if you have added your spouse your spouse in the PR application and received AOR. You can submit the BOWP for both using the same GC KEY. You will need to fill separate IMM5257 form for yourself and your spouse.

And accompanying? How does she or he gets a work permit?
You both will get an implied status with an extension for 5-6 months. The implied status states you can continue working under the same conditions as per your previous work permit. The BOWP processing time itself is around 4-5 months.

Provided your spouse is already inside Canada and was holding a work permit. Spouse can continue working under the same conditions

As I see. BOWP is for a principal applicant only, no?

Who can apply for a BOWP
To be eligible, you must

  • live in Canada (and intend to live outside Quebec) at the time you apply for your BOWP
    • You can leave Canada while we process your application.
    • However, if you leave Canada after your work permit expires, you can’t work until your new application is approved.
  • either
  • be the principal applicant on your permanent residence application
  • have submitted a complete applicationfor permanent residence and passed the completeness check
    • Submitting a profile to the pool is not the same as applying for permanent residence.
    • Make sure you understand how Express Entry works.
  • have your acknowledgement of receipt letter
    • We send this letter to your account after we get your permanent residence application

If your current WP has not expired, you received AOR and added your spouse who is inside Canada as accompanying, both you and your spouse is eligible for BOWP.

Thanks for this @gildathomas .
Yes my common-law partner is accompanying, and was included in the PR application.
We are both inside Canada on the same temporary work permit (IEC), expiring end of Oct 2024.
I am also a little bit confused because, as @CanGoldDigger points out, the IRCC info that I can find says that only principal applicants are eligible. Do you know if there is a resource somewhere to confirm that partners can be included on the application for BOWP?
