Dear Seniors,
I have a query regarding Medical Insurance.
Because it takes 3 months to get ones local medical insurance, one has to take 3 months travelers insurance from India before one leaves.
The insurance companies give only 60 days insurance if one is an Immigrant.
As we have PR will we be considered as Immigrants? or can we take the normal Insurance for Foreign Travel as Indians.
Any one having knowledge regarding this please elaborate.
Waiting eagerly for your replies.
Yours,
EYEDOC

it is an immigration visa and you will be considered immigrants for sure...

not sure about other provinces but Alberta did not have a waiting period for health care back in 2007 + they covered upto 3 months prior to the registration date on top... maybe, your insurance will cover you in retrospect.

If it doesn't work out in the province you plan to move, you may take 60 days insurance from India. Then take 30 days insurance from some Canadian private insurance company....

Also, try searching this issue on settlement issues forum.. am sure someone must have given an answer on it already...

aanbaan is right. Alberta doesn't have any waiting period. I am trying through National Insurance from India.

You can take medical insurance for 3 or more months on line from many insurance companies with full coverage. If you can give a mailing address of any relatives or friends in canada you can apply straight away. Give the date of your travel to start with and 3 months ending date. I have tried the insurace for my parents and it was very easy. You can contact on e mail and make payments by credit card online. There are several medical & travel insurance companies providing temporary medical insurance in canada. Check the websites.

Get your insurance from a Canadian company prior to leaving. It is more versatile and you will be using it in Canada. I can assure you will get better service
