Please advise - Pathways to PR from PGWP

Hello good people,

I came to Canada in September 2021 to pursue a Master of science degree at one of the Universities in Ontario. I graduated September last year (2 year program) and got a PGWP that expires in October 2026.

After a terrible job hunting process that took many months, I was finally able to get a contract role March of this year which I was able to then convert to full time and permanent this summer.

My entire priority all this time was to land somewhere permanent for work and am fortunate it happened in the same role/company. It has been an emotionally draining journey with poor mental and physical health. I have been postponing this PR application process for a while with the safety net of the PGWP but the news today regarding immigration cuts has really upped my anxiety. Please guide if you can..

Some comments/thoughts:

1. What is the best option for me to proceed towards PR the fastest ?
2. Am I right in saying the first step should be applying to OINP Masters graduate stream?
3. Outside of Canada I have 15 months work experience split between 2 companies.
4. My language exam results have expired and I have to retake again..
5. Am I in trouble?

1. No fast way. What is your Express Entry CRS score? If above 500 then you have a good chance.
2. Yes. Calculate your score and look at past draws with scores.
3. It will count.
4. IELTS is mandatory.
5. Depends on score. Learn French in the meantime.

1. What is the best option for me to proceed towards PR the fastest ? express entry. in March next year you can submit a profile for CEC.
2. Am I right in saying the first step should be applying to OINP Masters graduate stream? yes. do that right away. OINP can take a long time. do this while accumulating experience for CEC.
3. Outside of Canada I have 15 months work experience split between 2 companies. this will be beneficial forEE
4. My language exam results have expired and I have to retake again.. go ahead esp if you want to do EE. OINP they say its not required but it will be when you submit your PR application.
5. Am I in trouble? for what?

Hi, thank you for the reply. I have seen many examples of CRS score calculators online. What's the most reliable one that's free ?

Thanks for your reply. I feel like I have lost or missed out on critical time. Especially in light of today's news regarding immigration cuts and even plans to reform other immigration pathways and even PR numbers...

Is the OINP path like this ? -> first apply and receive PNP nomination, then apply for EE. Do I have to wait one year to apply for EE? and does getting nomination help in EE and the final PR process?

OINP graduate stream has nothing to do with Express Entry. It is a non EE stream so you need to read instructions. Your score has to be drawn and then you apply. Once nominated, you apply for PR through IRCC.

Thank you, again. Pls correct me if I'm wrong. To summarize:
OINP has 2 streams - EE and non-EE (also called EOI). For the non-EE way:

1. There are different streams in OINP under the non-EE way.
2. You register an expression of interest or EOI under a stream. Wait and see if you are invited to apply. Then you apply. Then wait and see if you get nomination certificate. Then use the nomination certificate to apply for PR.

Is this right ?
How long will it take to get invitation to apply? Is there a website I can check for this?
And can you suggest which is stream is best between international student or master's graduate? I am a Master's graduate but am working now.

Have you even read the requirements for the different streams? Go on the OINP site and read about each pathway and the process. Different scores for different streams.

I did and I'm eligible under both, the stream selector tool doesn't recommend clearly either

Don’t know of any stream selector tool. One requires a job offer and the other doesn’t. That is the big difference. Look at your scores for each and whether you would be nominated.

Hi, on your response to #3, can you please clarify? My foreign work experience is not continuous for 1 year and it is split between 2 companies and there is a 5 month gap between them. But collectively I have more than 1560 hours. Am I still eligible for FSW? Thanks
