Change status to visitor

a lawyer is asking me for 2000 dolare to change me and my partner's status to visitor if my LMIA does not arrive on time, and then 4000 for the work permit.

My question is, is it easy to change the status to visitor? Can I do it myself? Because it seems like a lot of money 2000$.

That is criminal especially that much money to change to visitor status.
