Visit visa for the spouse of an intern (less than 6 months)

Hi everyone,

I have received a paid internship offer from a well-known company in Canada for 24-weeks. I have now received my work visa to travel to Canada with the support of my employer. However, as my internship duration is less than 6 months, my employer could not support us in getting an open work permit for my spouse and suggested us to apply for a visitor visa for my spouse on our own.

Now, I want my spouse to travel along with me to Canada with a visitor visa. I'm trying to apply via IRCC and struggling to find a suitable sub-category that supports my spouse's purpose of travel. The most relevant sub-category I noticed is "to visit my spouse, common-law partner, dependent child, parent, step-guardian or tutor who is in Canada temporarily, such as an international student or a temporary worker". However, it requires the inviter's address in Canada and as I'm not yet in Canada, this sub-category becomes irrelevant.

My question is, can we apply under the "To visit Canada as a tourist" sub-category and explain the situation in the comments? I'd be happy to hear your thoughts if any other sub-categories would be relevant in our case.

Your spouse is visiting. There is no sub category for visiting while a spouse is working as an intern.
You need to understand that your spouse's visitor visa may or may not be approved.
You need to have enough funding for her to visit for a long period of time. And if you don't have kids, your spouse will have no family tie to home.

I understand your point. My employer is funding for travel and accommodation for my spouse. We don’t have kids, but since I will be returning from Canada to home (my visa is valid only for 6 months), I believe it’s a strong reason my spouse will also leave together with me.
