Hi,

I applied for visitor's record and received it recently. My TRV is expired now, and I want to renew it. Would it be possible to raise a webform and request the same ( giving the Visitors record application as reference). When I try to apply for TRV by filling in the questionnaire, I am redirected to the application for extending visitors record or changing the conditions. Is there a way to apply for TRV separately while having visitors record?

No, you certainly cannot do this. It's not the same application. It's a completely separate application.

To the best of my knowledge you cannot apply for a new TRV from within Canada on visitor status which is why you aren't getting the option to apply. You have to apply outside of Canada.

Thanks for the fast response. So is there a way to apply for TRV within Canada? I have a situation where in I have to go to my home country and come back in a month or so ( within the duration of my visitor's record). Since my TRV is expired, is there any way to go about this?

It's not possible. You have to apply from outside of Canada. Applying from inside of Canada is only possible if you hold either a valid study permit or valid work permit.

Hi there - once a person leaves Canada they cease to be a visitor. When the person next comes to the POE they're examined afresh. Your current visitor record will cease to offer any status in Canada.

Thanks for mentioning this point. From what I understand with the above information, although my visitor record is valid for 6 or so months, once I leave Canada, my visitor's record will no longer be valid. Due to this, I won't be able to apply for TRV with visitor's record. Is my understanding correct??

These are two independent and completely separate legal instruments.

Visitor's Record - it explains your status while in Canada - you are here temporarily and authorized to be here as a visitor.

TRV - it gets one on a jet, or up to the counter of any Port of Entry without being already in trouble for not having a valid TRV.

You are intersecting these two separate legal terms but they exist independent of each other and are completely unrelated. When you legally exit Canada the Visitor's Record becomes a souvenir of your stay. It's value is zip, nada - yesterday's news.

When you apply for a TRV outside of Canada they will be able to see that you had a Visitor's Record. You will be a foreign national applying for a TRV.

Have a safe trip home.
