Hello,

Has anyone included sponsored over age dependent with parents under PGP program? CIC says Overage dependent > 22 can be included in the application if they have physical or mental condition but I can't find any definitions for Physical or Mental conditions.

https://www.ircc.canada.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/aod-tool.asp

I am curious - what proofs do they need to confirm mental condition? Has anyone been able to successfully sponser overage dependents?

Thanks

You will need to provide medical evidence that the dependent has a condition of sufficient severity that they are unable to live independently, unable to work, unable to go to school to complete higher education, etc. We have certainly seen some people here be successful with the right circumstances and evidence. You will also want to show that the dependent has been living continuously with the parents and is fully dependent on them, including financially.

You should also show that this has been a longterm medical issue. Include proof of treatment options tried, hospitalizations and letter from treating physician with diagnosis, treatments attempted and longterm prognosis.

Agree with the members' suggestions. BUT it's also a double edge knife. If the adult dependent shows that he/she is requiring excessive support from the social and medical system, the complete application will be refused, including the parents.

Would add it is quite hard to include a someone over 22 with mental health issues while having an intellectual disability without other medical issues is not quite as hard. Proof unable to attend mainstream schooling, limited life skills, etc. much easier to prove and abilities will not change much over time. For example a child with Down syndrome as long as they don’t have major cardiac issues.
