Hello,
I traveled from USA (new york) to Canada (Ontario) with my passport and COPR to complete my "soft landing" yesterday via the Peace Bridge. I was expecting the visa officer at the border to sign my COPR and cancel my 1 time entry Immigrant VISA on the passport to allow me in Canada as a "landed" permanent resident. However, the officer just saw my documents and let me through without signing anything.
Since it was my first time doing a land border crossing, I thought I would be seeing someone else after the initial booth however to my surprise as I drove a little ahead I came to a toll booth and entered Canada already.
So here are my questions:
1. Can I simply go to the CBSA office at the Peace Bridge location and get the process done from the Canadian side or do I HAVE to cross over again to the US side and re-enter Canada to get my COPR signed?
2. Do they have any electronic record of my arrival into Canada through the land border? (Because the officer didn't stamp anything on my passport for the entry from us to Canada)
3. If I return back to the US this time without getting the COPR stamped and signed, and come back next time (in about 10 days), can I just get the COPR signed then?
I even went to the Toronto Pearson International Airport and tried to get it signed from the immigration officers there but was told that since I entered by land, I can only do it via land border.
If anyone knows what I should do in this situation please let me know.
PS: I have an Indian Passport with a valid H1B (unexpired) and want to complete my landing then return back to the US in a couple of days.
