Hi everyone, I'm in the process of submitting my IEC Working holiday application and the system told me I had to undergo a medical examination, which I believe I shouldn't need. I've been living in the UK for the last 9 years, which is not a country it's required for, and haven't visited any other countries for over 6 months. I have a feeling they might have based their assessment on my country of birth. However, I haven't been there in over a decade, not even for a short visit, so I don't understand why it matters? I'm not planning on working in any job that it would be needed for either, so I'm not sure what to do at this point. It's really expensive, so I'd rather avoid it if possible.

Has anyone been in this situation? I'm not sure what to do.

What is your citizenship. IEC is based on country of citizenship, not birth. So do the medical. Quotas are determined by citizenship and if not a UK citizen then follow rules for your country.

To be eligible for the Working Holiday category, you must

  • be a British citizen from
    • the United Kingdom or
    • the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey

I’m a UK citizen & have already accepted an invitation for the Working Holiday category. The medical examination is on my document checklist, but since I’ve only lived in the UK for the last 9 years, I don’t believe I should be required to do it, which is why I’m confused.
