Hello guys!
I have a couple of questions here.
We got AIP, we are in the process of sending all the documents required but I have an issue with the valid passport, our passport were sized when we arrived. In order to try to renew we will need the old passport, and I said try because there is no consular office or embassy in Canada. What we should do? Write a Letter of Explanation? Will that be enough? All the password but one are valid if we add the extension that Canada approved on 2019.

Same thing for the background check, we asked for them, but it will take some time, we prepared a document with all the proofs that we requested it, Will add a letter help with that as well?

Thanks a lot for your help!
Just go to CBSA ask them for certified copy of your passport. They will provide you.
When you submit your application just mention that CBSA seized your passport. It doesn’t matter if it expired or not.

Thanks for the prompt reply!

In fact they gave us certified copies of the documents, those are good to do things in Canada, but not enough to renew a passport.

Are you in Canada right now? If yes you can get it from CBSA after the AIP I believe in.

Hi Taweda! Congrats on the AIP.
I want to share what my lawyer told me about it. This is for my case. Apparently, because we didn't get AIP by mail, the office that reviewed the case was Vancouver, en the AIP letter says that documents must be sent to Niagara Falls.
My lawyer said that because is a new office all the documents need to be sent again.
Thank you. Could you please let me know what are the documents that you need to send. I will send my documents myself without a lawyer help and I am afraid that I may not send everything

- Forms IMM569 and IMM5406 -- These are easy because is just addresses and names.
- Background checks from every country you lived more than 6 months for the adults and if any of your dependants turns 18 during waiting for this decision.
- Copy of a valid passports or proofs that you can't get one.
- Documents like marriage certificate, divorce certificate if you were married before, proof of civil union (l'union de fait), brith certificates for your child/ren, adoption documents if you adopt a child.
- Right of permanent residency fee (575$ p/adult) dependants child/ren don't pay this.
- Proof of employment (Pay stub, Employment verification letter) or a letter explaining why you don't work and how you support yourself financially.

I believe you can ask for passport exemption.

Hello Folks, hope all good, while I experienced myself the PR to Citizenship route, and know the process, a distant FOAF applied for H&C and he has been asked yesterday to submit the biometrics fee which he did, now on his behalf, seeking the following information. While I experienced myself the PR and Citizenship process and know about it.

  1. How can he track his application status? ECAS or dedicated application tracker?
  2. What are the steps involved in processing? like AOR > Biometrics > BGcheck...etc. or what?
  3. What is AIP acronym in timeline spreadsheet? just trying to understand the process stages and timelines.
Many thanks and good luck to all of you!

AOR is (acknowledgement of receip) If your application is complete ircc will send you mail confirming that your appication is received aslo you can find your application number which starts letter H.
After one month they will ask you to give your Biometrics.
After that your aplication will go under process.
And the background check starts.

Thanks for eleboration, well, he didn't received AOR yet, I suppose AIP is different than AOR in H&C case? Ironically he has application number and UCI and he appleid through PR Portal: https://prson-srpel.apps.cic.gc.ca/en/login

Yesterday he received an email to pay biometric fee ($85) which he did, and sent receipt to Vancouver new email id. Now he is seeking further information.

  1. How can he track his application status? ECAS or dedicated application tracker? Do he need to link his application to this portal through GCKEY: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/account.html
    1. or there's some other dedicated portal?

unfortunately he can neither track nor he can view the status of his application after submitting it online.
The portal only shows you the date you submitted the application.

Approved in principle (AIP) is when you have received a letter from IRCC stating that you meet the permanent residence eligibility requirements.
It is one of the two stages of the process.

OK thanks much, now it makes a sense, so if I understood it correctly, once he will receive AOR, he might be able to track through some OTHER portal? May be he has to link his app in MYCIC through GCKey or there exist some dedicated tracker for H&M case? AIP is first stage and second stage goes through further steps like Medical and Docs Req > PPR > COPR > Landing (as per excel sheet).

So he should wait for AOR, then he will give biometrics, and AIP will come in due course. After AOR, he might be able to track through WHICH portal? I was goiing through threads and there were mentions about portal 1, portal 2...not sure.

Hello all ,

I received pre -arrival letter from IRCC and I haven’t received AIP . Please what does this mean ?
Congratulations @temmy-27

Your application has been approved in principle (AIP). If you are you currently reporting to CBSA? AIP letter, most likely has been forwarded to the officer in charge of your file. They will be the one to give it to you. Otherwise, it should be on the way to you soon. You can try your luck calling IRCC CLIENT CENTRE, for the status as well. It's a good sign of approval for sure!
