Hi.

I finally received an invite to sponsor my father for his PR card. I am about to submit his PR application - my father is a widower and I also have a sister who is single - age 48 who takes care of him.

The PR application form for my Father is asking if anyone else will be accompanying him to canada - am I able to add my sister to the application as she is single and is the primary care giver for my father, even though the invite to apply for PR came only for my father ?

I am happy to sponsor both of them financially - but do not know if I am allowed to include her in my fathers application.

Any help would be appreciated- thanks!

Your sister cannot be added. This is not allowed. It is only possible to sponsor your father.

I thought so, thank you.

Once he gets his PR, would he be able to sponsor her as her surviving parent
No, not possible.

If she wants to immigrate, she will need to qualify on her own through an economic immigration program like Express Entry.

And thats another wait list :) But this was very helpful info...thank u !
There is no wait list for Express Entry. This is a points-based program, not a lottery or first in, first out. Those with the most points are selected. So it's all about how many points your sister has. Your sister will want to achieve a score of 500+ to have a chance of being selected. This will likely be challenging at her age unless she has advanced education (e.g. PhD) and also fluency in both French and English. If she cannot achieve this number of points, she would need to look into the PNP (provincial programs) and see if there are any options there.

Yes shes proficient in english and went to school in the UK - the challenge is with her age and current field (Teacher) it will be challenging to get her here under a provincial program but we will look into it for sure. She is also planning to do a Exec Masters so perhaps that could be a option to come in as a student initially before applying for a PR after finishing her degree
