Is english language proficiency test mandatory for postdocs with an offer of employment number?

Hi,
I have been offered a postdoc position in a Canadian University. I will be applying for the Employer specific LMIA exempt work permit from outside Canada. I wanted to know if a English language proficiency test (such as IELTS) is mandatory for the application even though it has not been mentioned in the job description.

Hi mate,
In your case, was this related to your nationality or the place where you did your PhD? or was this just because its not required?
Let me explain why I'm asking: I recently finished my PhD in the UK, but I'm Mexican (my first language is Spanish). After a few
hours figuring out how to submit an online application, I haven't found in any place a formal request for an English proficiency test.

I would appreciate it if you could share more about your application experience since I'm a bit concerned about following the process without
any certainty on this matter.
