Hello there, I am looking to inquire on the length of study permit that is usually given for a 16 months or 12 months graduate study. So I am hoping to get admission to either a 12 month or 16 month program. For example, the 12 month starts September 2024 and ends mid August 2025. Would I be given a more time on my study permit to still be in Canada or will it just take course from Sept 2024 to Sept 2025.

I am asking this just to see if I would be able to get the points for applying for PR on study permit via the OINP Masters Stream. I am currently on my Pgwp with point 436 and I am deciding to go to GRAD school to try the OINP Masters stream

Not sure of your question. Study permit will be given for length of program. If not given a permit long enough to complete program, you extend your permit. Permit expires 90 days after completion of program. What will be your OINP score on completion?

Thanks for the reply!! So in a scenario whereby I am given a student visa from Sept 2024 to Sept 2025, having completed my grad degree, I then apply for OINP invitation and get the invitation around Oct 2025 and then proceed to apply for PR via Master Stream in Nov 2025, do I get the 10 points in this stream for applying with a valid study permit as it would still valid 90 days after Sept 2025?

So you graduate in September 2025. Your permit is valid 90 days after completion. Assume you get before December then you apply for nomination, and then once nominated, you apply for PR. This is assuming that OINP program has not changed requirements.

Ohh Okay .. so this mean that the points on OINP masters stream are determined once I register for expression of interest and not when I apply for PR through the stream.

It is when you put in a complete application through OINP. Then it would be locked in. PR is a separate process through IRCC. Non EE takes many months and you would not have an open work permit following completion of Masters. You cannot work.

Okay.. so the steps is that I register for an expression of interest, then get an invitation , then apply through the OINP, it’s at this application, all points are calculated, and if nominated , you apply for PR . Getting invited before December which means applying for OINP before the 90 days gives me the 10 points ay?

so sorry for disturbing. I just want to ensure I understand this

You need to have a high enough score and apply through OINP with a valid permit to count the points. Again, you are basing decision on a program that can change requirements at any time.

Okay got it! Just wanted to know that the master stream can be used since it will be hard for me to get through Express Entry with 435 points. Do you think I should apply with my points for Express Entry?

You should have a profile with EE. OINP grad stream is not tied to EE.

Yeah .. that’s what I am asking!! Knowing that I wouldn’t be making the points cutoff for CEC. Do you recommend me to still create a EE profile?

my one year as a customer service supervisor completes in July but since I know how strict CEC is interms Of cutoff , I have applied for masters. That’s why I was asking abt the masters stream

You should always have a profile. Learning French may be cheaper than taking a Masters.

So you meet requirements and have admission for Masters. Pay tuition and show minimum $21K?

Passing the French tests will be a big issue for me because even speaking IELTS I got 6.5 lol so going for French speaking even after learning it would be difficult for me
My initial plans was to get a PR and go back to school. It’s a sticky situation for me but I know getting the right scores on a French test will be difficult . I am lucky fella that has folks that can sponsor him.
