Hello all, in the initial stages of planning my move to Canada. Have ben reading about the economic situation there and wondering if it's a country to move to. With such high cost of living, not many job opportunities and minimum paying jobs.

Came across a few articles which talks about immigrants leaving Canada due those reasons and now with the student cap, do you guys still planning to move there or looking at any other options?

All depends from where you are and what your motivation is. I came from a top Western European country located between Germany, France and Italy and I did not regret my move to Canada 100%. Best thing I ever did, I traded a high pressure job with lots of money and no time for family, to a good work/life balance. Of course we brought a ton of money with us to afford all the good things, but it certainly was worth it. Never worked on minimum wage either and had a job in no time. Now I am semi retired on PEI looking forward to spring and my garden

PEI is a wonderful place to be. I agree decision to move to Canada relying on website articles is like reading reviews before accepting job offer. I moved to Canada from SA and I dont regret being here. I once lived in Springfield, MA relocated back home before moving to New Brunswick and now in BC. It can be tough first years without Canadian Experience, @RLP0191 you should be ready both financially and emotionally especially when home sickness kicks in first two years. If you are coming as a student, it may be tougher especially in major cities. You need to manage your expectation vs reality and make decision.

Thank you @foodie69 @Simba112 for you sharing your opinions. I appreciate that. I am hoping for someone in a similar boat as I am, an international student. Things seems quite different now for immigration as compared to they did a few years ago.
This is just another article from globe and mail where they talk about Canada being the poorest country in the G7.

lets start with, what program brings you to Canada? Do you have Study Permit Approved? Which City? Age Group

I am looking at diploma course while my friend is looking at masters. No student permit yet as I am just starting the process (to choose a country). Age group 24-30. City: Bangalore.
This is more of a general immigration question for international students to see what others are thinking/feeling.

What type of diploma course and what is your education and work history? Does your family have the ability to pay for your education without placing huge demands on their finances (for example exhausting their savings, wiling out retirement funds or are you trying to borrow the funds to study in Canada? Would you be able to study the same course in your home country? What are you expecting out of studying in Canada and what is your family expecting out of studying in Canada? For example are they expecting this to be a pathway for your extended family to move to Canada.

Same question.
If you have a PR

Considering the political scenario where Trump is reportedly planning to impose tariff charges and potentially annex Canada as the 51st state, is it still a good idea to move to Canada?

Additionally, with inflation, high housing prices, and the current economic conditions in Canada, what are Reddit users' opinions on the matter?

The benefits of moving to Canada include the freedom of permanent residency (PR) and flexible working opportunities.

If my current U.S. company allows me to work remotely with a U.S. salary of $130K as an independent contractor (but without benefits), would that make financial sense?

I'm open to suggestions and insights.

Did you posted in the wrong forum? You were asking opinion from Reddit users, yet you posted in this forum.

Extremely dependent on the person. Also dependent on longterm goals, other global immigration options, your profession/job, etc. Lots of instability in the world and likely corrections in many economies. Also have anticipate that US immigration policy may change although hard to predict what will actually happen. Partially depends on who Trump is talking to that day. Can’t imagine they will get rid of H1B but may put additional requirements or tighten criteria. Like most of the world and actual world leaders we will probably have to monitor Twitter and truth social for policy announcements which is insane in itself.
