in 2020 my mother applied for refugee applications and since i was her dependent (under 18) i was under of her case too automatically. in 2022 she got accepted in her case and applied for PR . we have not received the PR but my question is can i go back to my country for visit since my life is not in danger and it is her who can not go to the country?

Would personally not suggest returning to your home country until you have PR because you may have difficult returning to Canada but yes you can return to your home country and use your home country passport if the whole family didn’t claim asylum only your mother did. Your mother should not use her home country passport or travel to her home country until she is a Canadian citizen. If her life was at risk then even traveling as a Canadian system could be very risky.

If you were in Canada and appears as Associate Claimant, you are subjected to the same conditions as of your mother. If your name appears on Notice of Decision then you are protected person. If you chose to leave Canada back to the country of origin, it is re-availment.

Poster was part of the claim, so he/she is Associate Claimant. Same rules applies and can not leave back to country of origin until becoming Canadian Citizen

Mmm it’s crazy, mind if I comment here because I’m in the same predicament as this person above because I came here with my mom now knowing what to expect and then the she applied for her refugee claim and I thought she placed her children as dependents. Now my mom is lgbtq+ and back home it’s heavily shunned and she’s gotten threatend and harassed because of it so I get why she tried to find a better life around people that can understand and support her cause. But for me I’m not lgbtq+ so why do I have to be stuck here, sure I wanna stay with my mom yes but I also have a father and other siblings back home that I want to see so it’s taken a toll on me greatly

There is no other way. You are conventional refugee

Actions have consequences. Claiming asylum is a very serious step that has significant consequences. All this info was available before your mother chose to bring you with her to Canada and claim asylum with you as a dependent. You still have the ability to travel to a 3rd country to visit your family.

You can meet your family in another country that also accepts travel with a Canadian RTD since you should not use your home country passport.
