Good i pray someone can help me understand this entire situation. My family and I were due to travel to Canada to receive therapy for our daughter who has sensory issues. the flight was feb 3 and due to the eta site being down on January 31 i applied feb 1 for our eta (didnt realise we needed them in Bermuda). the todller, infant and mines was approved (mother) but my kids father seemed to be delayed. We were sure we would get it but when arriving at airport on feb 3 he was denied on the flight. I found myself in a panic state, do i travel with an infant and toddler by myself or lose out on my spot for a medical trip.

Fast forward to Feb 5 we have now messaged the site, try to call, messaged Canadian consulate and do everything under the sun to determine why he was denied. They made us create a g2key account and asked for my partner to produce a police record. Strange, but we paid 100 US for a police record (no criminal record) and uploaded it online. We were sure they would now issue his eta as we done what was asked.

Today is Feb 7 and we have been instructed that his eta was cancelled due to either 1 or 2 things. 1. we made a mistake and had to recreate your application or 2. found that you do not need the status document applied for.

so now we are completely lost at what to do. no one answers the phone, or email, or webform. i said maybe i should apply again and to my surprise the site is down AGAIN. so i wait until after 5pm as instructed and reapply, only to be told his application will be reviewed in 72 hours. Is this normal? why haven't they told us what happened to the first application? why do we have to wait another 72 hours. we are in canada due to the medical care for our daughter which cant not be obtained in bermuda.

this is the worst experience ever.

when we call they say due to high volume of refugees, we have to call back. we have called all day. we are a simple family just trying to make sure our daughter receives the best treatment. i even uploaded the letter from the clinic where she will be attending to see if it helps his case. still radio silence. is this how canada treats people. very sad.

Unfortunately no one here is going to have the exact answer you need.

It makes sense the father was denied boarding by the airline. You need an approved eTA to board the plane. eTAs have been in place for many years now and airlines are not allowed to board passengers without the required approvals to travel.

Normally eTAs are approved very very quickly. If it takes longer, this normally indicates that this person doesn't have a completely straight-forward profile or there is something in their profile that concerns IRCC. What that might be is impossible for any of us to say since we don't know the father's background. This can sometimes be related to past travel history or past immigration history (not necessarily in Canada), it can be related to police records, sometimes IRCC will refused if they feel the person traveling has plans to remain in Canada long term or doesn't have the financial means to support their trip, it can also be if IRCC thinks there is a misrepresentation in the application (including failing to declare a past visa refusal to another country). There's any number of reasons why you've run into this issue. Unfortunately really impossible for any of us to guess why.

In terms of the 72 hours, as said above, it is normal for eTAs to take longer when an application is non-routine. The father's is non-routine in this case since he was already denied once and because it seems like there's something that concerns IRCC. You should note that it's not guaranteed you will have an answer in 72 hours. It could take longer. Depending on the issue or concern, much longer.

Thank you for your reply. yeah, after submitting the police record we figured it would be sorted out (there was nothing to declare). we have traveled 3 times recently in the last 6 months to US no issues as a family for medical for our toddler. this has been a nightmare to say the least.

and yeah it doesn't say denied or refused. rather cancelled due to their mistake on application or that he didnt require the application in the first place and that they would send further details but no one has.

he has traveled to canada before as have i, just the lack of communication is disheartening. we have return tickets, i guess we just wished they would supply us with the reason why. by the time they decide the trip would be over.

We will just stick with Boston Children hospital.

we get it now, we are not welcomed here smh.
