Asylum in Canada

Hi guys I need you help
I’m in Canada with tourist visa Visiting my family right now.
I live in uk for the past ten years but I couldn’t get a passport or permanent visa. I only have a UK visa for the next two years.

I have been threatened by some people who knew me for religious reasons. They have caused me troubles.

While I have been here they have been to my brothers house and looking for me in showing him the I’m in trouble.

I’m really concerned and feeling scared to go back to UK.

Do you guys think that I can apply for Asylum in Canada also I have to mention that I never apply as Asylum in anywhere. So I don’t know if it is wise and possible to do.

Extremely doubtful. You’ve spent 10 years in a designated country, one that is considered safe. The uk doesn’t generate refugees, so cases from there are most often rejected......quickly.

What are your reasons for not being able to return to your home country? To succeed at a refugee claim, you would need to prove that you cannot return to your home country. Your experiences in the UK are irrelevant.

Then after the funeral right I decided to go to Canada because I can't go back to United kingdom because I don't have a valid visa again. And I decided to go to Canada because I have a multiple entry Canadian visit visa. And I move to Canada because of the persecution that arrise from the funeral of my father. As I am in Canada. I don't want to go back to Nigeria. Can I seek for asylum in canada.

You can certainly apply for asylum but whether you are going to be approved is a different matter.

You will need to have strong evidence to show what has changed since the funeral of your father that now makes it necessary for you to apply for asylum. You will also need to demonstrate that there is nowhere else in Nigeria you can move to be safe and that you will continue to be in danger no matter where you relocate in the country.

Needing to return home to attend a funeral is not typically grounds for visa cancellation. Had you been studying full-time in the UK before leaving to attend the funeral? As previously said it isn’t clear whether you have grounds for asylum. How long you had been in Nigeria and what proof you have of persecution will play a big impact on the approval process. How long have you been in Canada as a visitor? Would suggest speaking to an immigration lawyer about your chances of getting asylum in Canada before applying since if denied it will have serious implications on your ability to travel to many countries in the future. There have been many asylum seekers from Nigeria in Canada and approval is far from guaranteed like other countries.
