Hi there,

just want to understand a few questions.

1. the baby would be a Canadian citizen.
2. The PR application would need to be updated to list the dependent
3. As I understand there are basically no healthcare options if the person can’t qualify for OHIP via OWP here and the pregnancy would have to be paid cash.

1. If born in Canada, then yes. Also may be a Canadian citizen if born outside of Canada depending on the status of the sponsoring parent.
2. Yes, but the child is not being sponsored if already a Canadian citizen.
3. Yes.

Re: #3

This is insane. So a child born to a Canadian father on Canadian soil is basically forced to be born into debt as opposed to let’s say people brought in on Ukrainian or Palestinian visa programs who would qualify for health coverage immediately.

What’s even more interesting is that abortion is basically free.

It's because these individuals are on work permits. Somewhat similar to the rules for spouses of temporary work permit holders and spouses of international students.

Whether it's unfair or not is a separate discussion. Not saying it's not valid. But you are dealing with the rules that are in place right now and those rules don't give your spouse access to OHIP without certain criteria being met.

Just to add to my previous post, look into midwives. This is a way of significantly reducing costs.

It just makes sense to drive over to the US. It costs the same in terms of delivery and the child will end up with both citizenships, especially since we would be paying anyways.

Anyways, I managed to get some time with my MP so will raise the fairness issue there.
