Does my stipend for the scholarship represent a salary?

Hello,
I am doing research at the University of British Columbia as a scholarship from my home country. I receive stipend for this scholarship and I am holding a work permit. Does this work count for my Canadian work experience despite I don't receive salary from UBC?

As you said that you didn't paid in CAD, neither you were on the payroll of Canadian Uni. They can't provide you experience letter either that you work for UBC, can they?
