No T4 or T4A for one of the Work Activities

Hello everyone,

This is somewhat urgent. I am applying my Canadian citizenship and I came to the country as a student and then became a PR. While a student, I applied and worked for a part-time job through my university job portal. Once I was leaving the job, I found that they do not provide T4 or T4A slip for the work. They gave me a contract and pay slips.

My question is: this will be included in my work history, however, since there is no corresponding T4 or T4A from the employer, will this lead to questions/problem in my application process? The job was 4 years ago, so I am not sure if I can contact the employer again and get any further documentation. In case needed, I can show pay stubs and an email that show I asked for the T4 slips but the employer said they don't issue it.

I am really confused about this so any help or guidance will be helpful.

Thank you

Not all jobs issue a T4. If you were an independent contractor, you would receive a T4A.

Either way, it's unlikely that it will cause any issues. You're not claiming any points or credit here. You're just providing work history and a contract + payslips should be enough evidence in the unlikely scenario you get asked about it.

Also, have you tried your CRA account? All tax slips issued including T4A should appear there.

Thank you for your response. I should have clarified, the employer did not provide a T4 OR T4A.

I checked my CRA, it's not my tax slips history.

Why do you need them? They aren't usually attached to the citizenship application.

I don't need them per se. I am wondering if I should expect questions/inquiry from IRCC that one of my work activities does not have a tax slip attached to it, in the unlikely situation that they go into that level of checking.

Just wanted to see if anyone has been in the same shoes earlier and if they had any follow-ups from IRCC in their case.

Highly unlikely IRCC would need those, so there's no need to worry. All they care about is if you submitted your tax returns for the years of presence in Canada.
