Hi everyone!

I want to ask you something about returning to Canada after travelling abroad. I am currently waiting for the oath ceremony and am a bit worried about it as we have to cut the PR card during the ceremony. I wonder if a citizenship certificate ( e-certificate ) will be enough to return to Canada or if you strongly suggest postponing my oath ceremony. ( It seems like an oath ceremony will be sent this week)

My timeline was:

October 12, 2023: Application sent
November 9 2023, AOR
November 22, 2023 Test invitation
November 24, 2023: Test is completed.

Thank you!
Hi, you'll get your oath after your LPP is completed. there is also a website where you report the days you will be out of the country so they can schedule it around the time you will be in country. https://secure.cic.gc.ca/ClientContact/en/Application

You can also call IRCC to get proper guidance on the procedure.

Finally saw some movement and sharing latest update:

Online Group application

Application #1:
Office: Scarborough and then moved to Mississauga
AOR: May 31st 2023
BG: Jun 28
Test : Jul 17
LPP: Nov 30
Oath: pending invite

Application #2:
Office: Scarborough and then moved to Mississauga
AOR: May 31st 2023
Fingerprint request: Jul 4
Fingerprint received: Jul 19
BG: in progress
Test : in progress
LPP: in progress
Oath: pending

The 2nd application became non-routine due to fingerprint request whereas the first one was standard. I saw some people here who had fingerprints process faster but when I called IRCC they said it can take time and sometimes outside of 17 months window. I hope this helps everyone else and if you have any suggestions on what could be the hold up please feel share, thanks!
I need little clarification on your oath status, its the status not started or pending or pending invite ?

Good question, it says citizenship ceremony "not started". My LPP was updated Saturday so my guess is the final stage will kick in sometime this week.

It is a bit interesting that your application was sent October 2023, and you ask this question in May 2023 thread. Also you have not mentioned your LPP has been completed. There can be a long delay between "Test Completed" and "LPP Completed" stage. The official guidance from IRCC is that most applicants will have a citizenship ceremony at around 4 to 6 months after the test is complted.

Just a couple of recommendations based on what I have read on this forum before ( Do not consider this as legal advice of any kind ).
  • Looking at your previous posts around TD, it is highly likely your application could be non-routine( processing time 17 months or longer).
  • You have to maintain your PR status(including all residency obligations) for the duration your citizenship application is in progress. In case your application is non-routine, this could cause issues with PR status.
  • You cannot take the oath from outside Canada, very limited exceptions.
  • You cannot travel on a citizenship certificate(e-certificate or paper).
  • If you expect your oath to be scheduled during your travel, you should postpone it unless an (unlikely) exception has been granted.

Mine is actually may 2024 as well... not July as I mentioned earlier.
It seems like we have a very similar timeline and details! As hard as it is, it makes me hopeful to see that there is at least another person in the same situation :) We will get it soon!!

Any clue about the possible cause of the delay in my application as my LPP was completed 2nd week of November, processing office Niagra and no further update since then

so...i called IRCC and they explained that e-grants DF means Decision Finalized which can mean citizenship granted. My LPP was just recently approved so perhaps thats accurate after all.
Good news for you! Mine doesn't say anything after E grant...

Interesting, which office are you in? I wonder if it's the holiday season. Have you called IRCC to find out about the cause or delay?

Hey! I just logged in now to message you. Haha. I finally applied for the gcms note and I have just received it. As usual, it tells me what I already know. LPP not started. However, I see that my primary location is Sydney while my secondary office is Vancouver.
Too bad for me I guess. On the note, I see deadline July 2024. Lol. Oh well. I guess I'll continue to ignore it as I've been doing and just wait till they are happy to update my file. I have no urgent travel needs plus even if i do, my PR card works fine. I guess it's safe to conclude that I was not among the lucky ones that got their application completed in 3 months. Lol. Tough luck!
Awe, seriously I’m checking regularly to see if you guys got any news! Why Sydney, what’s different between them and other offices? It shouldn’t matter if you have travel plans, your case isn’t different than someone getting approved quickly! Just not fair but I admire your calmness!
