SINP - Job market for NOC code 11101 - Financial analysts

Hello. I have 10 + years of work experience as an investment analyst along with the CFA charter.

I applied for the Express Entry Program and SINP in September 2023. My score was 456 for EE and 70 for SINP. Been following the cutoffs since I applied and the scores are way higher. The SINP website mentions that for Q3 the avg processing time was 24 weeks. Any one would like to share their experience on their timelines from application to ITA?

How are job prospects in Canada for my NOC code (11101)? I see a few openings here and there on the national job bank but i never hear back from them. This is I presume since I dont have Canadian experience? Any thoughts on how to improve the job search?

So have you been nominated by SINP. You will never hear back from employers until you are PR and have work authorization, and you may need to start at another NOC (bank teller) to gain Canadian experience. Getting a job right away in your NOC may not happen.

There are a very large number of immigrants with finance background coming to Canada and Canada is a small market so can only absorb so many of them. You have people leaving HK, Canadians who graduated and remained in Canada, Canadians who studied in Canada but went to work in finance in London, HK, NYC, etc. and are returning when they have children, immigrants from Asia who have been working in Finance across the world for well known financial institutions, people who had been working in the UK looking for other opportunities after Brexit, etc. all moving to Canada and mostly Toronto. There are only so many jobs to go around in a small market. Banks are laying people off but it has always been difficult to get an interview without contact. Having a CFA does give you a leg up compared to many others but if you are Currently employed I would not move to Canada without secure employment especially at the moment given the state of Canada’s economy. Layoffs will lead to even more competition in the industry.

Thanks @canuck78. Thats what I have been hearing mostly about the job market getting tougher. I do know of people (Asains) who moved to Canada 4-5 years ago and are now doing quite well. I think post COVID things have changed drastically.

What are your thoughts on going for a 1-year Masters program and then applying for a job there. Do you think having a degree from a local university make the job hunt easier? Almost all the immigrants i know who went to Canada in the past 4-5 years did enrol themselves for a Master progress even when they had their ITAs under the Express Entry program.

If you do an MBA from a top 5 business school it should help if you don’t already have an MBA but it still doesn’t change that we are likely in for a long period of economic instability and we have already seen our big banks having significant layoffs and there will likely be more layoffs. Canada has also had a large wave of immigration in the past 5 years so there are many people competing for the same jobs plus now you have to add in those who have become unemployed. What really matters is your current employment plus lifestyle and what you are expecting out of a move to Canada.
