Hello everyone,

I am applying for my father's visitor visa to attend the convocation ceremony. I have a couple of doubts, and I would appreciate it if you guys could help me with this.

1) I am on a work permit and my sister is PR of Canada but I am inviting my father to attend my convocation ceremony, Do I need to mention anything about my sister in the invitation letter? I have filled in all the details about my sister on the application portal.

2) My convocation ceremony is in the first week of December is it good idea to apply for visa on November 1st? processing time is 14 days.

3) My father is taking care of my grandfather who is 80 years old and requires assistance with medication. Should I mention this in invitation letter? Do I need to submit any kind of documents for this?

Thank you!

1. No
2. Where is he applying from? He fortunately lives in a country with short processing times but should apply ASAP.
3. How long is visit? It may be seen as a tie. How will grandfather take medication if he is not there? He will need to show proof of full-time care, doctor’s notes, medical reports, property to show that he is living with your grandather and that he needs 24-7 care. Most people can take medication by themselves so need to prove why he cannot take medication without your father.

He needs to show travel history, and better ties to return. Taking care of his father may not be seen as a tie, and are both his children in Canada? If so that will be an issue. He needs to show job letter with approved leave as well as travel history. Has he ever come to Canada or the US?

Hey! Thanks for replying. Appreciate it.

He is living in India but I am applying on behalf of him from Canada.

He will be here for a month and yes both of his children are in Canada. He has really good international travel record. He worked in multiple countries in Middle East for more than 20 years as mechanical engineer and had travelled a lot. He is retired now. He has never been to US or Canada though.

grandfather needs to take special injection twice a day and my dad helps him with that.

So he is applying India with you as his representative. Processing time is not 14 days as that is for people living and working in Canada. Good travel is US, UK, NZ and Aus. So what are his ties other than his father. If he can come for a month it means that grandfather must be okay on his own. He needs his father’s doctor notes/records that he needs care. His ties are weak if both his children are in Canada and he is retired.
