What does your PR card application say on GCKey ?

BTW I'm not quite sure what you mean by GCkey. Is that the same as where I initially applied for PR, or there's another one to check the PR card application status?

You need to link your PR card application to Gckey

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/account/link-paper-online.html

This is different than your PR application.

PR portal wont give you update on status of your card.

Yes, it is different. Use UCI and Place of Birth as option to link rather than Application number
