Could anyone please explain me the difference between the two different application statuses:
1. Application refused (and subsequently refusal letter is issued)
2. Your application was withdrawn (and the withdrawal letter is issued).

Can I apply your response to the exact case. Refused application with the status “withdrawn” means that I have refused it myself?

You need to say what kind of application you are taking about and provide the exact wording of what you are seeing. Different things can happen to different applications. Without details, you can only expect general answers that may not fully answer your question.

Ok, possibly you’re right. It’s a refusal of the PR application of my brother in law. The refusal was brought to Court, but without success. The GCMS notes say that the application was withdrawn. The online account shows the same status - withdrawn. At the same time there is a letter stating that the application was refused. That’s basically it. Now I wonder what does this difference in wording mean.

Oh, I see. It was Express Entry Federal Skilled Worker. Why it was refused is actually the question. Brother-in-law had all his criminal records from three countries of residence challenged and reviewed, and he passed them all successfully. Then he was requested several times to pass medicals. He attended an interview. He had to provide personal information reaching back several dozens of years (even though forms ask for the last ten years). The official reason: “non-compliance”. If this helps to understand better, I would appreciate you helping me to understand the refusal/withdrawal difference.

I was wondering if it was a PNP application in which case it would have made sense to me for it to show both refused and withdrawn if the nomination was withdrawn. None of us here are immigration lawyers. You are asking complex questions and I think you need to hire an immigration lawyer at this point to assist you.

I was wondering if it was a PNP application in which case it would have made sense to me for it to show both refused and withdrawn if the nomination was withdrawn. None of us here are immigration lawyers. You are asking complex questions and I think you need to hire an immigration lawyer at this point to assist you.

Don't have the answer but it's "normal"/possible that IRCC ask for personal history and police clearance for more than 10 years ago (since age 18). It's up to IRCC to request more details from the person. (It happened in parents and grandparents sponsorship.. so it's many many years of history)
