I am in nepal currently and planning for moving to canada being an international student probably on next year. I also have some dental issue and I am currently in the process of getting braces. My concern is, if after over a year i am in mid of getting my teeth aligned, and I had to travel to canada, will it be possible to continue the braces tightening to be done in canada?

I wanted to know if there are some insurance plans that cover at least some percentage of braces payment.

Also, what's the maximum cost of braces in canada?

Any information would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Get Invisalign.
thank you for the response. Invisalign is a good option but given my situation of teeth, they are very crooked and doctor says, braces is the only way. I don't know if I can get braces for some period of time and then switch to Invisalign once they get into decent alignment.

Thank you for your quick response.

I think you can do that. Talk to your doctor about that. But it would increase the overall cost.

You can continue the braces treatment in Canada, but I believe dental is very costly in western countries.

I am currently on Invisalign treatment and have completed 40% of the treatment. I am currently in India.

Canada is the most expensive country in the world for dental work.

I'm sure that any orthodontist or dentist will be more than happy to continue what you have done in Nepal.

I have had traditional braces for one year. Total cost, for just the braces and adjustments, is almost $10,000. You will certainly be able to find cheaper than that in the city, and the fact you're half way through your treatment should lower the costs considerably.

Your student health insurance will cover some aspects of your dental care, but there are fairly low limits, so you're going to be quite a bit out of pocket.

In short, yes you can do it but it's going to cost you.

Thank you so much for the detailed information. Now I can prepare myself accordingly. I am getting braces in Nepal by end of next week.

I would also like to know How is the payment made? 10,000$ is a huge amount and I am guessing the payment is made firstly about 3,000$ and then monthly 300$ or so every visit over the next 2 years?

They do offer a payment plan and it was at 0% interest.

You'll have your assessment and then they'll offer you different ways to pay. I was offered:

Option 1: Payment in Full
Option 2: 1/3 of total, then 20 months of the remaining balance (roughly $300 a month)
Option 3: 10% of total, then 30 months of the remaining balance (roughly $280 a month)

Your dental coverage as an international student has a maximum annual limit and also has maximums in different categories (say $300 a year for cleaning or whatever). The dental surgery usually has you pay and then they'll do the claim for you from the insurance. So you get some cheques back. To be fair, they always paid what they said they would.

As a top tip, when you are issued your student health insurance, there may be an option to select "Extended Dental".
If you know you're going to have a lot of dental work then I would choose this option. It raises the limits on dental work claims, but lowers them on other health benefits.

I hope this is of some help. Good luck with the braces and with your student journey!
