Hi!
This is Anne. I am currently residing in BC (since last year). I saw a thread from 2019 about applying for work permit at POE (flag poling) with just Visitor record and expired TRV (for a TRV required country). I am on the same boat and I would appreciated if you can share your inputs with regards to my situation. As the processing times was just updated recently and I really need to have my work permit and be able to start working ASAP, I am really considering flagpoling the soonest possible time.
I was supposed to do flag poling 2 weeks ago but just went for the paper application since fellows around me (even immigration lawyers and IRCC phone agents are against flagpoling). Now that I have read that thread from 2019, I would like to reconsider my options for flagpoling as current processing times for work permit paper application became 47 days instead of the previous 19 days.
My background:
- I have submitted a work permit application by mail to CPC Edmonton last September 8, 2023.
- a registered Nurse in BC. Currently with valid visitor record (until March 15, 2024).
- no previous work permit or study permit. Initial came to Canada just to be a visitor and visit my now common-law partner.
- with job offer as a RN for a Health Authority in BC.
- BC PNP nominee with confirmation and support letter under the T13 LMIA exempt International Mobility Program.
- with an ITA for EE PR (pnp stream.
Now my questions are:
- given that I only have a valid visitor record and expired TRV, also coming from TRV required country, do you think I can really go for the flagpoling to be able to obtain my initial work permit? I plan on withdrawing my work permit paper application once my work permit at the POE is granted.
- are CBSA officers at the POE really strict? What time do I need to be there and what location do you suggest I do the flagpoling?
- I only have digital copies of the documents I plan to present, will they suffice? Also, for those who did get their work permit visa flagpoling, do you mind sharing the complete list of documents you presented at the border?
Thank you very much, and keep safe!
