Cruel 24 months of waiting for Outland spousal sponsorship

Hi all,

Does anyone have any success stories of know of anyone who's had their spousal sponsorship case in Quebec processed before 24 months recently? Seems everyone who is applying for family reunification in Quebec is in the waiting game for years. Recently there's been an article pointing that 30,000 applications are in backlog, and knowing Quebec only takes 10,000 a year, that puts us far behind the line. So 3-4 years?

In English Canada many receive PR within 7-8 months. I'm considering relocating to Ontario for that exact purpose. Is it complicated changing a destination province once you've submitted your spousal sponsorship application? We submitted our application 6 months ago and have received AOR + CSQ.

We've been recently denied a spousal TRV due to "inconsistent purpose of stay", received several months after we applied, after Minister Fraser's announcement of 30-day spousal TRVs.

The short answer is that some have managed to have their applications processed in a shorter period of time and some seem to be taking the 24 months or more. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to who falls in which bucket.

Unfortunately the Quebec government has created a very bad situation with their caps.

If you move to a different province, the process to change your address is quite straight forward.

Things finally got moving when we got our local MP involved, as MPs have a direct line of communication with IRCC and can get prompt answers that would not be provided to applicants directly.

It's out there in the public media. It's public knowledge. I think Quebec was trying to hide behind IRCC for a while but IRCC essentially outed them and now we all know who is to blame. I would be absolutely screaming at my Quebec provincial rep if this was impacting me. Quebec has completely screwed people over. IRCC is actually trying to get Quebec to drop the caps because of the negative impacts to families but so far Quebec has refused. See one of many article below:

Legault and his party are lunatics. They are doing public consultations for 3 weeks at the national assembly to debate whether they should increase immigration to 60,000 in 2027 or leave it at 50,000. In 2027!!! What a big deal. I'm not sure what they will argue when the backlog will go from 24 months to 36 months, and +. I mean, it's bound to happen. Canada is replacing its population with immigrants. It's only natural that many of them will eventually want to settle down and raise their families here. This, in turn, leads to a multiplying effect on the demand for family reunification. Many of my Moroccan friends marry home, and bring their spouses here. I wonder how Québec will be attractive for them knowing they have to wait 24+ months.

Looking at the average visa processing time on the IRCC website, which has been updated recently to show Québec in and out of the equation, it's embarrassing. People from all over the world are seeing Québec on its own in the drop down menu, with 24+ months for family reunification, and Canada 13 months. For parents and grandparents, it's even worse. Good to see that IRCC exposing Québec.

Waiting 24 months is really cruel, my wife is a Canadian citizen born in Quebec, our application has been over 1 year, if it continues like this, I will call my wife to the country where I live

What`s the current status of your application? Are all stages are complete and you just wait for ppr? Did you get AIP?

Stuck on background and eligibilty is in progress, I haven't received an update since April

No, we just happened to travel to Turkey at the time the new policy was announced so we applied for TRV while travelling
