Hi! I need some help. I need to go to India in next few days for my dad's critical surgery. However, my PR is in expired state. I have applied for PR renewal but its moving very slow and I am not expecting to get that in time.
I need to come back to Canada in 2-3 weeks max for some personal and work commitments.
What are my options available to return safely to Canada after I step out.
  • Does PRTD takes a very long time to process in India?
  • I do have a US Visitor Visa (never used but still active). Is there a way I can come via USA. When i am entering USA and asked about the purpose of my visit - if I state that the reason for my visit is to go to Canada via Land using a private vehicle , can it become a problem and they can deny entry?

You are a PR. You will not be denied entry. Just be honest.

As mentioned above, you will not face any issues entering Canada via the land border. Make sure you meet the residency obligation, otherwise you run the risk of being reported at the border. But even then, you will be let into the country - but you may face a removal order, which you can appeal.

Admission to the US is a different story, however. Even with a visa, you are not guaranteed entry. So travel via the US always has a residual risk of you not getting to the land border in the first place.

I recommend you read the conditions of your US visitor visa carefully to see what reasons for visiting the US are allowed.

Perhaps state that you want to do some shopping/sightseeing in the US before returning to Canada via the land border. You could book a hotel for one night to support this.
