Lost PR Card: US Citizen

Hi there,

I was wondering if I recently lost my PR card and am about to fly to the United States, would I need a PRTD upon flying back to Canada or could I enter Canada with my U.S. passport?

U.S. citizens do not need an ETA to visit Canada.

You can return (fly) back with just your valid U.S. passport. Just don't tell the airline that you are a PR of Canada, unless asked.

You will likely be sent to Secondary inspection when you get to CBSA, but they will be able to see in their system that you have PR status...with or without a PR Card.

You should be fine...unless you encounter an airline employee that does not understand that you CAN travel back to Canada with just a valid U.S. passport. Do NOT volunteer that you are a PR.

Once you are heading towards CBSA at the airport, be sure to bypass the PIK machine and head straight to a Primary Inspection officer.

What you have in your passport is not a copr (unless they've come up with something completely new). The copr is a separate piece of paper.

You can identify it easily - reads confirmation of permanent residence in all caps at the top. You would have had it signed when landing.

Yes. They stapled it into my passport upon landing.

Literally the first time I've heard of them stapling it in. Kind of dumb actually, I'd suggest keeping it separate and not travelling with it. (For your purposes with lost pr card a photocopy is enough.)

Thing is, occasionally original copr may be needed years later.
