Hi All, I am a US citizen who has received an offer from Canadian company based in Ontario. The company also operates in the US but I am not at an executive level position. The position is not contract based so I am trying to understand my option to apply for a work permit. Any leads and help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hi!
Congratulations on your job offer! It sounds like you're looking to apply for a work permit in Canada.
There are a few different types of work permits available to US citizens, depending on your skills and experience. One option is to apply for a LMIA-exempt work permit. This type of permit does not require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), which is a document that shows that there is a need for your skills in Canada.
Another option is to apply for a work permit under the International Mobility Program (IMP). The IMP is a program that allows employers to hire foreign workers in certain occupations. You can find a list of eligible occupations on the IRCC website.
If you are not eligible for a LMIA-exempt work permit or a work permit under the IMP, you may be able to apply for a work permit under the Global Talent Stream (GTS). The GTS is a program that allows employers to hire foreign workers in high-demand occupations.
The specific requirements for each type of work permit vary, so it is important to check the IRCC website for more information. You can also speak to an immigration lawyer to get help with your application.
Here are some additional tips for applying for a work permit in Canada:
- Be sure to have all of the required documentation, such as a valid passport, a job offer letter, and a police clearance certificate.
- Complete the application form carefully and accurately.
- Pay the application fee.
- Be prepared to provide proof of your skills and experience.
I hope this helps!
