Hi all,

I am a temporary worker currently on a PGWP that expires in October 2024 (Acquired a bachelor’s degree in Canada in late 2020). I have 6 months of experience in Canada but I have unfortunately been unemployed several months now. I need 6 more months of Canadian experience to reach 1 year boost my CRS score but unfortunately finding a job has been incredibly tough.

For that reason, I am considering going to my home country, working for a year, and entering EE through the FSW program. Unfortunately, I don’t think my CRS score will be high enough until I get multiple years of experience.

Obviously the easiest option would be to try and stay in Canada and try to find a job but I feel that the more I wait, the more my career is getting harmed. I looked into some things that can accelerate getting a PR through FSW including:

- Learning french and taking TCF
- Applying for Human Capital Priorities Stream (not sure how competitive this is, if anyone has any idea please let me know)
- Acquiring a master’s degree (I would prefer to do this later on in my career after I get enough experience).

I feel like I have been trying to balance my career with my pursuit of the PR and it has been incredibly stressful. If anyone has been through a similar situation or has any advice, please let me know. All your help is appreciated and best of luck to you all in your journey!

Have you applied for jobs throughout Canada? What is your education and work history? Leaving Canada will make it much more difficult to get PR.

Bachelor’s degree from a Canadian University. 6 months work experience in Canada so need 6 more months to get 1 year of experience and boost my CRS scores. I have been looking mainly around Ontario but it has been pretty difficult so my thought is to go back to my home country, work for a bit from there, and comeback when I have more experience. I know it’s probably inconvenient for me to go back in terms of my pursuit of the PR but I’m losing hope in terms of finding a job here.

Have you looked outside of Ontario? Foreign experience especially if not from a large multinational is unlikely to help finding employment in Canada. What is your field of study?

How about gaining 6 months exp in one of the categories declared for 2023 ? in that case, you would qualify for CEC and one of the categories.

I’m a Mechanical Engineering graduate. I have been looking for jobs in multiple fields though.

Can I get a link to the categories you are referring to? And would the 6 month experience have to be in Canada?
