Hi,
I am looking for some guidance on the things that I need to watch out for while working for a Quebec based employer (Montreal City) but from Ontario:

1. How will it impact OHIP - Ontario provincial health coverage ?
2. What are the tax residency considerations - should I pay Ont. provincial taxes or QC. provincial taxes. Any inputs will greatly help.
3. Will I jeopardize my closed work permit ?
4. Will it penalize my time in Ontario and get considered when the time comes to apply for PR (say like CEC - Express Entry).
5. Are there any additional considerations that I might be overlooking ?

Thanks.

If you are on a WP a location is usually specified. Your WP probably only lets you work in Quebec. Yes you will likely have difficulty qualifying for OHIP since your employer is in Quebec. If remote work was a possibility with your job there would be no need to be in Canada.

Thank you for your inputs, Will I risk my WP if I live/stay and pay Ontario taxes ? Will there be issues in getting this time accounted for PR ?

One last question:
- If my employer changes the office location to a city in Ontario should they reapply / pay all the LMIA/WP fees all over again, if they choose to change the location to a city in Ontario ?

You would have to modify and reapply for your WP. Does your WP specify Quebec or a city in Quebec? Quebec has a lot of their own requirements. As to apply for OHIP you would also need to prove that you had full-time employment in Ontario that last over 6 months not remote employment from the office in Quebec. To qualify for Quebec healthcare you need to be living in Quebec. If you want to meet the terms specified on your WP you need to be living in Quebec. WP specify locations because if remote work was possible there wouldn’t be a need to be in Canada as a WP holder. You could work from abroad.

You were told that you had to live in Quebec months ago why did you move to Ontario when you were told you needed to meet the conditions on your WP?

Thank you for your inputs and swift responses.
Correction : The employer is not relocating they are planning to open a second office in Ontario in addition to the primary office in Quebec. The office is not open yet.

I haven't started working yet but this is an item that I am actively debating with my future employer who is on the verge of kickstarting the closed work permit application process. With the likelihood of change of WP location looking high, I don't want to be in a situation where the employer would have to re-do the entire process where it would cost them double the money and I would end up missing out on OHIP coverage because the closed WP is connected to Quebec [becomes a loose-loose].

Also for your other question on location, the closed WP will be attached to Montreal,QC.

Pls advice.
