Applying for SOWP as an international student living in university accommodation

1. Because of the prevailing housing crisis, I have chosen to get a room at the university where I will be studying. Is this something that will adversely affect the SOWP application if everything else is in order? Once my spouse's SOWP comes through, I plan on getting a place on rent or moving to family accommodation at the university.
2. If my spouse changes their SOWP to a visitor visa near the date of expiry, can they apply for an extension or a new SOWP from within Canada?
