Hello everyone

My visa got refused. I am a single 29 year old legal professional.

The reasons for my refusal were as follows:

1. Insufficient funds (I showed approx 20k CAD liquid funds in my bank accounts and additionally showed various investments, co-ownership of property, ownership of car etc)

2. No significant families ties outside Canada ( My entire family is in my home country. My parents, my sibling. I don't have any significant tie in Canada. I mentioned their details and also attached their identification and address proofs)

3. Purpose of visit (I showed my purpose as visiting a family friend who is a senior govt employee in Canada as well as tourism in my official vacations of the court. Showed a 10 day trip. Wrote the flight details and the itinerary but did not do any bookings)

I showed my personal and professional ties to my home country. Attached documents of my upcoming work commitments as well. Attached 8-month bank statement, property papers, CA report, Tax statements, Investment proofs etc.
Attached a notarised invitation letter along with their employment in government of canada proof.

What else can be done? Shall I submit a reconsideration request? Please help.

Order GCMS notes. Overall, your profile is good. Do you have

1. 10 day trip - Did you estimate how much the trip would be. If over $10k then IRCC using most of your savings for trip. you included sufficient information on investments, taxes etc.
2. If you are over 22 then family ties are spouse and children. Unfortunately IRCC doesn’t consider your family as parents/siblings and see single people as mobile, and not needing to return home to family.
3. Trip length is good. What did invitation letter say? Where were you going to travel for those 10 days.

When you say work commitments do you mean job letter with approved leave? That is what you want or contracts of work you have to do.

I had shown the estimated cost of the trip as $5k. My accommodation was at my family friend's house.
The invitation letter also mentioned the same dates. It mentioned that my host will be responsible for my stay, places where we ll visit. That my purpose was to visit Canada in my vacations. I attached whatsapp conversations for proof of relationship.
I attached an itinerary showing I would stay Mississauga, visit places in and near Toronto, Niagara, Blue Mountains, Kingston and Ottawa.

I am a lawyer. I attached an upcoming court hearing in July, letter from my colleague, letters from some of my corporate clients, retainer agreement with a company which legally obligates me to continually provide legal services otherwise legal action can be taken against me, my Bar membership etc.

I do not know what else could have I done.

Is applying for reconsideration a good idea?

You can apply for reconsideration if you believe there was an error in law. There are no timelines for reconsideration and sometimes reapplying is faster. You should order GCMS notes for full reason.

- Funds: Having the host say all expenses will be paid for was not the best idea. You should be saying that you can fund your own trip. That is a lot of places for only a 10 day holiday. Given the distances between places did you budget eating out, transportation, overnight accommodations because $5k for a trip is not that much after paying for airfare/insurance.
- Family ties: Unfortunately your parents/siblings are not ties.

So your decision or wait for GCMS notes and then reapply with a visit funded by you and invitation letter stating you will stay at friend’s home. Include all work ties to return. IRCC is not very supportive of single people coming to Canada as IRCC considers them mobile. Your profile is strong and you did most things correctly.

FYI - there is no formal reconsideration process. If you want to request reconsideration, then you can send a webform to ask IRCC if they will reconsider the decision. None of us can tell you if this will work or not. However you can certainly try.

No no, I did not say that my host will fund my trip. I mentioned that I will fund my trip. I will only stay at their place. I am sorry if I was not clear about that.
As for places, I did take into account the travel times and feasibility. Mentioned all that clearly along with the places I ll visit.

Even for re-application, I do not know what all additional documents or new information can I show as according to me I showed everything possible.
