Hello,

I was recently accused of shoplifting a $60 dollar t-shirt from a large retail store in Montreal, Quebec. I am an international student studying at university on a study permit. The police wrote up a court date for August, accusing me of theft under $5000 and right now it is mid-May. This is my first-ever encounter with the law. have two straight forward questions:

1) How likely would you guess it is that I will get convicted and have my study permit revoked/be deported? I know that diversion is possible, but how likely is it?
2) I had plans to go back home (united states) over the summer to work. Is it unwise to cross the border and back?

Lawyer up...rather than speculating on both questions
