How can I have my spouse stay in Canada?

My spouse had come to Canada for work, his employer promised him permanent residency and was not true to his word. It has been under a year since his status has expired. Is there any way he could fight this and win or what are his options?

How can an employer promise PR? If on a closed work permit, employer can lay you off. What has spouse been doing for the last year if status expired? Research Express Entry or PNP programs and see if eligible.

So he came to Canada on a LMIA and closed work permit. How long did he work in Canada? Then he was fired? What is he doing in Canada now? What is his job? What province?

He needs to be eligible for PR. A job doesn’t guarantee PR.

You are not giving much information to help.

There has to be some basis for an extension. For example if extending a WP you need proof that you are still working for the employer, you may need an LMIA, etc. Maybe he changed he status to visitor from a work permit. As other pointed out a lot more information. When did your spouse come to Canada and what type of WP did they have? Did the employer have an LMIA? What type of job was it? What aNOC or TEER? How did they find this job? Were they laid off or did they work until the end of their WP? What have they being doing since? What is their current status? Have they applied for any permit of visa? Have they worked since they stopped w working for the employer on their first WP?

What is your status in Canada?
