Hi,

I'm planing to study at Georg Brown College Post-Graduate and hopefully I will have the study permit for that.

I would like to study for a certificate at York University too at the same time, same year.

1. Is possible in Canada to study on two different Institutes, like Georg Brown College and York University?

2. Can I study at York even I have the study permit for studying at Georg Brown?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes you can and No you can't. Yes you can because you hold a study permit which allows you to study at any institution(so far as you can afford the fees). No it will be difficult if not impossible due to time constraints. If you are going to be at both institutions, as full time student, in two different courses, you should be ready for a real tough time. by the way, consider the work load. Professors won't care why your assignments are late or not submitted. Good Luck!!

Cheers!!

Thank You Tarry!

I was not sure about that because I read something on CIC site and they have this :

An officer may impose, vary or cancel conditions on a study permit. These may include one or more of the following:

the type of studies or course you may take;
the educational institution you may attend;
the location of your studies;
the time and period of your studies;

How can i know if the officer will impose to my Study Permit any condition about the Type of Course or the Institution?

Thanks, Koli.

It's hard to tell if the officer will or won't, because most decisions by officers are based on what he or she understands of your case. Personally I don't think there will be any impositions on your study permit. The main imposition on almost all study permits is you are not allowed to work off campus before six months. By the way, that imposition will always be on your work permit even if you are issued an off campus work permit after six months. Good Luck!!!

As far as my limited knowledge in terms of Canadian immigration goes, I know that you can only have one study permit for one DLI. York is likely to ask you for your legal status in Canada. And if you have a study permit for GBC, they will require you to inform IRCC for change of DLI and you will have a study permit with York then.

In other words, you can't have two study permits for 2 DLIs at the same time.

The only exception is if the Canadian insitution offers a 100% online learning (100% online here also requires that you must not take an in-person exam in Canada or attend any in-person events arising from the program).

And the situation would be different if you hold a PGWP. When you hold a PGWP, you can apply for a study permit to undertake a part-time program at a DLI.

From my perspective, that would be a no for studying at two DLIs at the same time. More advice and further insights from more experienced persons are definitely welcomed.
