Hello All,

Iam Venkitesh Subramonian from INDIA, aged 45 years. I have got an offer to study a 1 year masters' program at University of New Brunswick. I also got my student visa today. This is for Sep 2023 intake. By the time, i complete the program, I will be 46. I am already working in INDIA. I want to evaluate myself objectively to understand the chances of getting a PR. What are my chances? Should i talk to some lawyer or have a consultation? For eg: If i check New brunswick PNP, their pre-requisite is that I should be first in express entry pool, which iam not. Hence how i can realistically gauge my chances? I sincerely appreciate all your help and guidance here. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

You'll know best, I wouldn't use a lawyer unless you're really confused. You likely have no prospect of immigration through Express Entry due to age (at age 46 you have 0 points for age), so your best bet will be to check and calculate your chances of eligibility under NBPNP. Make sure you look at every immigration stream and see if you could be eligible for something after you graduate; or if you could perhaps be nominated through employment if you find the right job on your PGWP.

I'll be honest with you at age 46 chances are low, but it's certainly possible. I know people in their 40s and 50s who are on track to get PR.

Are you eligible for EE? What is your CRS score. Look at AIPP and NB PNP programs which require job offers with designated employers.

Hello I checked my CRS score. it comes to 435 points after putting this 1 year masters' course of study in canada. But latest draw is 486 (april draw by IRCC). Additionally, New Brunswick province requires an active express entry profile as pre-requisite to apply for PNP. I got dropped out of express entry profile when i reached the age of 42. That leaves a question, whether i should learn french and write TEF. But i heard that it is too difficult and time consuming. So overall iam now in a conundrum. Thank you.

Do you have 67 eligibility points due to age before calculating CRS? What is your IELTS scores? It is too low for Express Entry so you either need a job offer with a NB designated employer and/or learn French to B2. Not a bad thing since NB has a high speaking French population.

Thank you for your reply. I checked the eligibility points using https://www.siaimmigration.com/fsw-67point-calculator. I got a result of 63 points, by keeping age as 46. My IELTS scores - are listening - 9, reading - 7.5, writing 7, speaking 7.5 (Oct 2022 exam result). After I read your reply, i believe in order to gain another 4 points, i need to learn french. However, can you please guide me in case you are where, how best / where to learn french? thank you in advance.

So right now you are not eligible for Express Entry until your score is at least 67. Once you have 67 points, you can enter the pool with your CRS score. Learn French at a local Alliance Francais or look up a French study group in your area. If you are coming to NB to study, the province is about 40% French so lots of places to learn.
