Help me understand RO - Canada

Hi,

I got PR in Feb 2018 valid till March 2022, I completed my 1095 days and left Canada (applied for citizenship). My PR card is renewed from March 2022 valid till 2027. Do I have to stay again for 720 days in these 5 years period?

Like I left Canada in January 2022, so I should return before January 2024?

Yes you have to stay 730 days in 5 years to keep your permanent residence status every time . There is no requirement for citizenship.

No. It is not every five years. It's a rolling requirement. On any date (today, tomorrow, next Wednesday, any day next year, etc.) you should be able to look back at the previous five years from that date have spent at least 730 days in Canada within those previous five years. Your PR card validity doesn't matter. Forget about that. The PR obligation is a rolling requirement. It applies continuously.

Also you have an infant, who you said you have sponsored. Not sure how that is possible unless you are living in Canada now. You need to be in Canada to sponsor your child and be meeting RO.

Has your husband landed yet and received PR? There were issues with that because you needed to stay in Canada during processing.
