I have from India for 5 months. Does that experience count towards PR application?

Hi all,

I will get one month vacation for every year in my organization. I had a month-long vacation in India and then had to work there for another four months (total 5 months), but I have pay slips for every month of that five-month period. Does that 5 month's work experience from India count towards my express entry application? Do I face any problems if I add that experience to my PR profile?

Thanks in advance.

is this for FSW. Do you have one year of continuous, full-time, skilled work experience in one NOC to be eligible? if so after that you can count the work experience if your employer letters states 5 months of paid employment.

Thanks @Naturgrl for your quick response.

It is not specifically for FSW. I already have 1 year of continuous, full-time, skilled work experience in one NOC and will be finishing another one year (total two) years of experience in a month in May. I will get 25 points more points if I update my 2 years of experience in my profile, but I am not sure whether it is recommended or not. My employment letter did not mention specifically about those 5-month period, but those 5 months are paid and moreover my employment reference letter which I took from my employer a week back has all details such as I am still working for them along with start date and all other details like title, responsibilities, etc.

What do you mean not specifically FSW. EE has 3 streams FSW, CEC (Canadian experience) and FST (trades). You must be eligible for one. If you have a record on job then include it.

@Naturgrl As of now, with my current 1 year of experience and 463 points, my express entry profile shows that I am eligible only for CEC. That's why I mentioned not specifically to FSW. If I add my another year of experience next month, my points will increase to 488. Can I add another year of experience in next month or do I have to wait for 5 more months ?

Have just checked my profile. Two years of experience has been automatically added to my profile and my points increased to 488. It is supposed to get updated on May 1st 2023 as I have started my work on May 1st 2021. Probably, IRCC calculated hours from my May 1, 2021.

But if you have one year of foreign experience (continuous, full time) then why didn’t you add it in the first place?

@Naturgrl I apologize for my poor English. I might have confused you. I have already created my express entry profile on June 2022 as I already had 1 year of full time continuous Canadian experience. On May 1, 2023 (in a month.), I will be completing 2 years of experience. As my score is 463 and express entry profile is with 1 year of Canadian experience, I thought I have to edit my profile next month to add my gained one more year of experience (to get extra 25 points for 1 more year of experience). So I was in a dilemma whether to update my EE profile with a 2nd year of experience as I am not sure that my 5 months' work in India for my Canadian employer will count towards my Canadian experience.

But, when I checked my profile today, 2nd year of Canadian experience has already calculated two days back and my points are now 488.

So you are eligible for CEC not FSW. You can add your Canadian experience with 2 years of experience.

@Naturgrl Sorry, my bad. I just realized what mistake I made.

My title for this thread was supposed to be "I have worked from India for 5 months for a Canadian employer. Does that experience count towards PR application?". I should have checked it. Thanks, anyway.

It counts as foreign experience not Canadian. You don’t have two years of Canadian experience.

I guessed so. Is it a foreign experience even if I have payslips for those 5 months, even a 1 month of paid vacation from company comes under foreign experience? Does IRCC checks all those for PR application?

CEC is experience IN Canada and is stated very clearly. To have 2 years of Canadian experience, you need 5 more months in Canada. IRCC will know you were not in Canada during those months and you be misrepresenting yourself.

Thanks for clarifying.
