Hi all,
I have a few questions:
1. I assume, no more in-person Oath and all Oath is online?
2. During online (or in-person) Oath, we need to show that we cut our PR card (or give the physical card to the official for in-person Oath) right?

My questions:
a. what if our PR card expired and we have yet to renew it? or
b. our PR card expired long time ago and we threw it away and we never renew it so we don't even have an expired card.

I assume, the cutting of PR card is just symbolic and whether we have the card or not doesn't matter. If we don't have the card, just tell the official and they will call it a day?

Thx all!

Cutting of PR card is NOT just symbolic. They will definitely NOT call it a day my dear friend.

So, what will happen if either:
a. we have the expired card because we have yet to renew it? or
b. our PR card expired long time ago and we threw it away and we never renew it so we don't even have an expired card?

they need to see the PR card and take it back ( in person ) or destroy it (online oath) since as a canadian citizen you are no longer a PR and cannot enter canada using a PR card or apply to anything using a PR status. that was part of the intention.

for a. this is ok as long as that was the last PR card that IRCC issued for you
for b . this is not ok , you would need a new PR card then to replace the lost ones.

for a. I'm assuming the official will check IRCC database first before we take the oath to see if the card is the last card that IRCC issued?
for b. our oath will be canceled?

thx!

@mangojuice There is an instruction in the oath email PDF about what to do in case your PR card was lost, stolen, destroyed or never received.
Read point # 8 in the PDF.

If your Permanent resident card was lost, stolen, destroyed or never received, contact us as soon as
possible, complete a Solemn Declaration form and return it to us at this e-mail address immediately
(and not at the Sydney, Nova Scotia address listed on the website).

The email address being the one mentioned in the PDF.
