Hello everyone, I am invited by an organization to attend a conference event. I was invited last year as well but got a rejection when I applied. I did not know much about SOP and the requirements, but the reasons mentioned were.

• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as required by paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2002-227/ section-179.html). I am refusing your application because you have not established that you will leave Canada, based on the following factors:
• The purpose of your visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application.
I had written a very short and brief SOP, but I want to know the main points to consider when writing for the visit visa's - attending event category and if someone could share an example of a similar type.

My current documents include:
1. Bachelor degree
2. Bonified letter for current degree
3. Bank statement
4. Salary slips
5. Invitation letter
5. Hotel booking, reservation, insurance, etc.
6. Employment letter
7. Passport
8. ID Document

Some of my questions are:
1. Should I mention my previous rejection reason in the new SOP as well?
2. I'm a masters student and an employee; would that be a problem? as they might be thinking students cannot work full time
3. There is no place to put siblings' details while applying in the portal; do I need an additional form for that? Should it be mentioned in the SOP? or not at all?
4. Some people suggested that you need an affidavit of self-declaration or something; I'm a little bit lost here as well.
5. As the conference is for a week and I'm off from university at that time, do I need to mention it?

Thank you

Had you ordered GCMS notes to know full reasons for refusal? If not, you should have done that because your reason can be due to many things - don’t live in home country, funds, travel history.

You are applying for a TRV so you need to show
  • funds to support your visit. You want to make sure that your funds are not depleted for a visit to Canada. Show you can attend and afford the conference for a week
  • Travel history to the US, UK, NZ and Australia
  • Ties to home country ( tuition paid, registration, job with approved leave, business, investments etc.)
Since you want to write a SOP keep it to one page. State why you want to come and how it will advance your education and job opportunities. You need to address reasons for refusal. No affadavid required. Why do you need to mention your siblings. N
