Closed Work Permit to OWP

Hello All,

Need some help with two questions below…
1. I am here on a closed Work Permit and have applied for PR based on spousal sponsorship. Would I be able to apply for the Open Work Permit in conjunction with my PR application Or do I need to wait out until my CWP expires?
2. I did submit my OWP application along with my PR application package but they sent it back twice - first time because I hadn’t included the OWP fees and they returned it the second time stating it was sent to the wrong office (CPC Mississauga Station B) (I sent it to the same office????). Does anyone know what office I can send it back to? Can I apply online even though I submitted by PR application on paper?

Do you have AOR? If not then wait for AOR and apply.

Once I get AOR, will I be able to apply for OWP for her? This is where I am confused because her CWP expires only in 2024, Do i have to wait it out or can I apply once I get AOR ? Also can we travel outside canada if we get the OWP? Thanks

You can apply after AOR. Takes about 4-6 months. Do you have a TRV to travel back? If so yes.

Inland Spousal applications seem to be moving quite quickly at the moment, it might not be worth it to apply for a OWP.

My husband also has a CWP expiring in April 2023. We applied in September and are now at the end stage of waiting for eCOPR to be issued. In our case, it was worth it to just endure the CWP situation a little bit longer… There’s also people who applied in October and November who are waiting for eCOPR issuance.

I want to know once I get my OWP, will I be able to travel outside for vacation(2-4 weeks)?
