Correcting Mistake in Background Declaration - When is it too late?

I am Canadian citizen sponsoring my wife under family class inland. We got AIP about 3 months ago. Meds are done.

I started filling out her paperwork for her OWP and realized that she filled in her background declaration all wrong in the original app. She is missing a 5 month period in the personal history. She forgot to mention a school she went to in education, and a few other things. Its a mess. But fortunately nothing that affects the actual validity of the sponsorship, for example she didnt forget to include any failed visa, criminal past, past marriages/children, or something that is relevant. Its just places she lived and schools she went to.

So i want to correct it, but i want to find out the best way to go about that? Send in a new background declaration? Write a letter? What are our options and how serious is this? Should we cancel the application and start again? Its already been 13 months so i dont want to do that. :(

We screwed up, so what the best way to fix it?

Does anyone have experience with this? Should we just leave it alone and explain at the interview?

It is never too late. I would suggest that you refill the form with the correct updated personal history and resubmit it again to CIC along with letter explaining the mistake in the original form. Make a note in letter to attach the updated form with your wife's UCI so that they attach it to the proper file.

I agree with this completely. Correct the mistakes before CIC discovers them and you'll be fine.

Wow! This is surprising to hear!

I thought once the application had been received by CIC (AOR), that was your `lock-in date', meaning that nothing could be corrected (regarding information on one of the immigration forms that the applicant signed).

From what is being said here, an applicant has time to submit an updated form with correction(s), and it will be accepted without penalty?!?!

Hmmm.

There have been some postings that some applicants were able to send in updated application forms with explanation detailing the honest mistake and wants to remedy this problem before they officially land without any issues. As long as they didn't land with intent to misrepresent themselves they were able to land without any issues.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

We just reciebved an email that our file has been transfer to the local office.

The letter says:

"We are pleased to advise you that processing of your application has been completed. The
Canada Immigration Centre in Vancouver will contact you concerning your permanent resident
status."

But I havent mailed the corrected info yet! I guess I will just send it to the vancouver office and hope its not too late :(

If somebody can point me out to the right direction !
I am a temporary residency holder. It has been 5 years since I came to Canada. Before I came here, I had to process my study permit application through an agent who did not mentioned my two sisters information in my family information form. Although I did sign the form without knowing the consequence of the misrepresentation of the information. Now I feel guilty !! I am feeling that I should fully disclose my family information before I apply for my PGW and Permanent Residency. If someone can tell me what should I do now ? How can I fix this problem without harming my status In Canada ? Please let me know. Thank you

Hi saifcd,

I am not sure what is best for you to do. I feel that honesty with them is the best approach. If you can contact them and explain exactly what happened like you explained it here and provide your family information, they will probably be understanding. You may also consult a lawyer. It is always better to be honest now than if they find out later about the misrepresentation, their reaction will probably be worse.

I also suggest that you create a separate thread for your question. You will get more replies. Good luck.

Please I need your Help !!!!!!

I submitted my application on the 6th December 2022, after reading my application over and over I noticed I made a mistake in my Background Information page where I was ask "have you be refuse visa or Order to leave Canada or deny entry to Canada or any other Country or Territory. I click No , instead of Yes . I remembered 2013, I was deny entry to South Africa due to failure to pay Hotel reservation, I was ask to go back to Nigeria pay before coming . Now I am scared of getting 5 years ban by not clicking Yes .
I send a web form explaining the mistake and filling out another form , I have resubmitted. Will that web form be considered?
What can I do now ?
Is there anything more I can do.
please I really need your help

You did the right thing, the webform was the right way to update, and not much more you can do.
