Child benefit for Temporary residents

Hai all,
Currently, my family is in Canada. Myself in a student visa, my wife is an open work permit and 4 years kid is on a visitor visa (studying in KG1). I have completed 12 months in Canada. I come to know that after 18 months of completion, I am eligible to apply for Child benefits. I would like to know that is this Visitor status needs to be converted to a study permit for getting CCB.

How to apply for kid’s study permit inside canada ? Is the same procedure like international study process?
Please share any information regarding this.
