Hi friends,
I am working in Quebec with my PGWP which is valid for 2 more years, I also applied for my spouse work permit and kids study permit. My spouse got the work permit of the same duration as mine but my kids got their study permit according to their passport expiration. Now, we have renewed their passports and want to apply for the study permit extension according to our work permits. Both of them are in the high school but less than 18 years. I am clueless about how to apply only for my dependent children because earlier they were included in the joint application.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions .

Hi ,

I have a situation.
I am applying for student visa to take up Post Graduate Business Management in 2023.
I have a total education gap of 10 years now, and work Experience of 9 years. Worked 2 years in IT In India and I have the Contract, Experience letter from them.
After that, I worked in GCC for the past 7 years. My previous employer has not given my Experience letter - I worked for 5 years with them and they denied my settlement and also my experience letter. But I have the Contract Agreement, pay slips and appraisal letters given to me during my tenure. I am quite scared about the group if they will talk negative as they were very hostile to me.

My present company is a small startup but the Contract is available, and is supportive.
So, if I apply for a student visa will there be any issue? Will they go into background checks about my previous employer? What are the documents to be submitted : Will there be any negative issues? I am quite disturbed about this as I have to move for the intake in September 2023.
ANY ANSWER WOULD BE HIGHLY HELPFUL.

Apply for a study permit extension for each child. Follow the online directions. It is the same as any international student although their extension length will be based on your PGWP length. You may need to highlight your PGWP expiry date if not clearly indicated in the application.

Thank you for your response , however, I still want to know about the requirements of CAQ and Letter of Acceptance, which Popup every time I try to fill the application.
What should I supply at the place of this as my children are minor, dependents on parents who are working in Quebec on work permit. According to my search, there should not be these requirements for them. I am hesitant that their applications will not be considered complete if i don't fill the requirements of CAQ and Letter of Acceptance. Kindly advise. Thank you.

Hi guys, thank you for your help. One question though, previously, i had applied for my kids study permit along with my work permit through my gc key. Now, to apply for theirs separately, do i need to generate independent gc Key for them. Your response will be very welcome as time is running out and i need to apply fast.
I am not being able to get my call answered by ircc. Please help...

Hi Bob,

were you able to get a resolution to your queries? I had some queries regrading the timelines when you submitted your PGWP + family's permits. How soon did everyone receive their renewed visa alongwith your PGWP?

I entered Canada on a study permit and reecived a visitor record for my minor daughter in 2021; both docs with validity until 30 July 2023. While I completed my masters the University, my daughter completed her grade 9 in a local Canadian public school, and is now in High School.

I recently applied for PGWP and in the same application mentioned that my daughter will be accompanying me. There was no additional document request for her except the usual IMM5708e form for "APPLICATION TO EXTEND MY STAY AS A VISITOR IN CANADA".

Please guide whether i need to separately apply for a Study Permit for her. I am getting mixed reviews where some state that if a minor dependent child is already going to a school in Canada, the parent need not apply for a separate study permit for the dependent kid when submitting PGWP application. The minor kid's visitor record is linked to the parents' Study Permit and will be renewed for the same duration of the PGWP.

Hi,
I can share you with my timeline.
I completed my Masters of 2 years in August 2021, I applied for my PGWP with upfront medical in Sep 2021 for just me alone as I was not working and I could not provide 3 paystubs of the job NOC O,À or B. My family is here in Canada with me consists of my wife and my 2 children aged 13 and 16 at that time. I received my PGWP for 3 years in January 2022. In February 2022, My wife applied from her gc key with my kids as well. at that point we had my PGWP and 3 paystubs as well. In July 2022, my wife got her open work permit extended till January 2025, just like me but my kids only got their study permits till October 2023 as their passports were expiring on that month. In November 2022, we applied for their new passports ( as we can only apply 1 year before the expiry of Indian passports). They got their passports in December 2022. We live in Montreal, Quebec, so my daughter is in the last year of secondary school, sec-5, After that she needs to attend Cégep that is post secondary education .
W got to know that now we will have to apply for their CAQ before the study permit and CAQ needs to know her next year admission as well.So she secured admission in cégep in March, 2023 and we applied for CAQ for her study permit ( it is mandatory for any foreign student to have even if they are living with their working parents here in Quebec) After that we applied for her study permit from my wife’s gc key because she is minor (17 years )and her study permit has been always applied from her mother’s gc key and this time we just needed to extend it, However this time it was like as if she was applying for it alone . She got the approval last week, I would like to mention that she gave biometric in April as she is older than 14 years. Now with this experience we are planning to apply for my son’s ( age 14) study permit soon as well.
So, I deduced few things from my experience-
- It is always better to apply for the kids as dependents with parents than alone.
- Make sure that enough time in the passport other wise you will have to spend your efforts, time and money again and again.
- For PGWP , you need to have 3 paystubs as a graduated student if you want to apply for your family as well in the same application.
I will share my further journey along the way in the future.
I hope it helped.

Hi
Now that you have applied for your child’s visitor visa with you, it is ok. If your PR is on the horizon, then no need to worry, however if it’s taking a long time, it is always advisable to apply for your child’s study permit rather than visitors record for her further studies, you can apply for it later on from your or your partner’s gc key.
Hope it helps.

This is simply amazing. Thank you for taking the time out and writing such a detailed reply with all the timelines. This is immensely helpful not just to me but for others who might have similar queries. Your valuable reply is much appreciated. I will file for my daughter's study permit with my GC Key as per your suggestion just to be on the safe side.

Hi Bob,
Thankyou very much for sharing your experience with timeline. I am reading it quite late though, somewhat my case is similar to yours. I have few queries. Are you online available to look into my case?

Hi Bob,
thanks very much for sharing your experience.
I am having the same issue. I applied for my PGWP and got approved and didn't extend my kids' MSP by that time. Now their visas are going to expire soon. So I want to ask, if I extend their status or change into a visitor record using my own GCKey account? and may I know if I need to show any financial proof? As I heard from other forums, if I have extended their status together with my PGWG application, I didn't have to. but apparently I have missed that chance already.
Appreciate if anyone can guide me on this.
